Benazir shocked by loss of life from floods

Staff Report

Islamabad: Former Prime Minister and Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Chairperson Benazir Bhutto on Sunday expressed grief over the loss of lives and property due to floods in Punjab and Sindh.

She said the current flash floods in the Chenab River and the Indus River had caused 16 deaths and displaced over three hundred thousand people in 10 Punjab districts.

She said that she was grieved at the loss of lives and damage to property in various parts of the country.

She urged the ruling party to take immediate steps to alleviate the suffering of the flood-affected people. She accused the government of being indifferent to the flood-affected people and said that she had earlier warned the government of the dangers of floods but the government had ignored her warning.

She demanded that maximum funds should be allocated to flood victims.
