MMA imposing ‘Taliban-style rule’: ANP
PESHAWAR: The Awami National Party (ANP) has criticised the proposed Hasba Bill by the Muttahida Majlis-e-Amal (MMA) government, saying it was an attempt to impose ‘Taliban-styled rule’ in the province. “The assembly is the supreme authority of the province and cannot be made answerable to a chief minister’s nominee, who is also accountable to the assembly,” said Haji Adeel, ANP central vice president. He said the religious alliance had been vocal about the supremacy of the parliament in case of the National Assembly but the bill would root out the Constitution from the province. Under Articles 87 and 127 of the Constitution, he said the Assembly Secretariat was an independent institution and cannot be brought under any authority. staff report
