Hasba law can’t be enforced, says Shujaat
ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Muslim League President Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain has said that the Hasba Act can not be enforced in NWFP ‘in any case’ as such legislation could be detrimental to the federation. He was talking to journalists on Sunday after distributing relief goods among flood victims. He said that the modus operandi for enacting a law was the same throughout the country and the Muttahida Majlis-e-Amal government, according to the Constitution, could not enforce the Hasba Act in the NWFP. He said that if it were allowed, other provinces would follow suit and introduce Hasba-like legislation, which could create chaos and weaken the federation. He said that the Islamic Ideological Council had objections to the Hasba Act and the bill should be sent to the ICC for consultation instead of getting it passed from the provincial assembly. online
