Visit to Germany is multipurpose: Shaukat Aziz

ON BOARD PM’S SPECIAL PLANE: Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz told Daily Times on Sunday that his visit to Germany was “multipurpose” and would cover a wide range of subjects. The prime minister is on a five-day visit to Germany and Italy with a high level delegation.
Aziz said he would seek cooperation from Germany in alternative energy sources and also discuss other issues including perception of Islam, Pakistan’s enlightened moderation, Afghanistan and the country’s peace process with India. He said he would also discuss Pakistan’s political situation and interact with German think tanks.
The prime minister said he would also give a presentation on the country’s economic scenario and visit the Deutsche Bank for a briefing. He said he would discuss the war on terrorism, United Nations reforms and the German role in supporting Pakistan on anti-dumping duty.
Aziz said he would talk with Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder about trade, investment and economic cooperation, and also discuss regional issues including peace with India and issues such as Kashmir and Afghanistan. The prime minister will also meet top German businessman and companies.
In Italy, Aziz will meet his counterpart Silvio Berlusconi and members of the Pakistani community. He will discuss Pakistan’s role in regional stability and development. Foreign Minister Khurshid Ahmed Kasuri and Information Minister Sheikh Rashid Ahmed were part of the delegation.
