US soldier dies of heart attack in Afghanistan

BAGRAM AIR BASE: An American soldier died of a heart attack overnight at the main US air base in Afghanistan, a US military spokesman said on Thursday.

The soldier died of while supervising Afghan labourers working at the base, US Lieutenant Colonel Douglas Lefforge told journalist at the base 50 kilometres north of Kabul. Hundreds of Afghan labourers from surrounding villages are employed as construction workers or cleaners inside the Soviet-built facility. The US soldiers escort them on their duties. In May a US soldier died of a heart attack at the military training centre in Kabul. —AFP
