Malik was the conscience of his generation
WASHINGTON: Pakistani journalists based in America have expressed profound grief at the death of Pakistan’s foremost progressive journalist and political historian Abdullah Malik.
In a resolution, the Washington Policy Analysis Group, which brings together all leading Pakistani journalists, writers and academics in the greater Washington area, said Abdullah Malik was the “conscience of his generation”. He was a man of exalted principals and a source of inspiration for the young. He was bold, resolute and upheld the things he believed in as a journalist and citizen regardless of the consequences. In his long and distinguished career, spanning over six decades, during which he suffered imprisonment several times, he set an example of forthright journalism that will outlive him. The Group said, “With Abdullah Malik’s passing, a light has gone out of the already darkening liberal scene in Pakistan. —Khalid Hasan
