Purpose of education is character-building, nationalism: Masud

FAISALABAD: Punjab Education Minister Mian Imran Masud has said the purpose of education is not worldly knowledge and skill but the aim of education is character building and love for the country.
The government is attaching a great importance to this aspect of education, while addressing the 11th convocation of Government College of Education (GCE) on Thursaday. GCE Principal Professor Rana Abdur Rasheed Khan, Tehsil Nazim Maj (IT) Abdur Rehman Rana, Education Board Chairman Prof Tahir Taunsavi, Executive District Officer (EDO) Education Mian Abdur Rauf, District Officer (DO) Colleges Prof Mushtaq, teachers, students, parents and people belonging to different walks of life also attended the convocation.
Mr Masud said, “The teachers should exercise their influence and induce a spirit of nationalism in their students to make them responsible citizen’s of the country. The government has banned all variety shows depicting the Indian culture in educational institutions. However there was no ban on national songs and plays depicting Islamic historical events.
Mr Masud said, “The government has allocated Rs 3 million to give scholarships to deserving students.
Later the minister gave degrees to about 800 college students and also announced that the government will construct twelve classrooms in the college.
Earlier the principal of the college presented the annual report and highlighted the achievements of the college.
