10 killed by lightning

PESHAWAR: Ten people were killed and dozens were injured when lightning struck them in various parts of the country on Tuesday night.

Reportedly, a lightening bolt struck a home in a remote area in Peshawar, killing six people and injuring three others, police said on Wednesday. The lightning hit the home of Usmani Zar in the village of Ghan Shan in the NWFP late Tuesday, killing his four grandsons and two female relatives, said police official Mohammed Iqbal Khan. Zar was not at home at the time, he said.

In another incident, four people including three women were killed by lightning in Fatehpur in Leiah district some 120 miles northwest of Multan.

“We have received information that two women from Chak No 220/TDA, one woman from Village Inayat Shah and a van driver, Muhammad Akhtar, were killed by lightning while a cyclist, Kazim Shah, was injured seriously,” said Shehzad Sultan, Leiah district police officer. staff report
