7 Britons injured in blast
LONDON: Six or seven British nationals were wounded on Sunday in a blast outside a Baghdad hotel on Sunday, the Foreign Office said, adding that it did not have information about casualties among non-Britons. “One explosion has occurred outside the Four Seasons Hotel in Baghdad,” a spokeswoman said. “Six or seven Britons are involved”, she said, describing the explosion as the likely result of “a bomb going off” next to the hotel. According to preliminary information there had been no serious injuries, she said. “We obviously be offering the relevant assistance,” she added. The blast comes after seven people, including two children, were killed and eight others wounded in a bomb blast earlier Sunday in a crowded Baghdad marketplace. Loud explosions were heard around Baghdad early Monday morning as US warplanes roared overhead, according to witnesses. It was not clear where the explosions originated from. —AFP
