Laws to retrieve encroached state land soon
LAHORE Colonies Department officials discussed a legislative bill on Sunday to retrieve state land worth billions of rupees from influential encroachers in the Punjab. The draft will be put up for approval in the next cabinet meeting and then be sent to the Punjab Assembly.
Punjab Colonies Minister Manazar Ali Ranjha told officials to make the proposals more comprehensive in consultation with the Law Department. He said thousands of acres of state land was illegally occupied. In Jhang district alone, 8,000 acres of state land were under illegal occupation.
Mr Ranjha said an authority would be established to vacate the land and sell it at market prices, which would bring billion of rupees to the government. staff report
