India considering more CBMs for Pakistan

NEW DELHI: India has indicated that it was considering more confidence building measures (CBMs) to normalise relations with Pakistan.
Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh and his External Affairs Minister Natwar Singh gave indications of more CBMs at a meeting on Friday. Congress President Sonia Gandhi, Defence Minister Pranab Mukherjee and senior Left leaders Harkishan Singh Surjeet, Sitaram Yechury, AB Bardhan and D Raja attended the meeting.
Briefing the Left leadership on the visits of Chinese premier Wen Jiabao and Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf, the government pointed out that India was keen to consider several new measures.
Prime Minister Manmohan Singh said India was committed to adhering to the Indus Water Treaty to ensure Pakistan its due share of water. The Left leaders stressed that progress on composite dialogue with Pakistan on various issues. They raised the issue of F-16s sale to Pakistan and warned India against bowing to pressure.
Natwar said Sino-Indian relations had improved and expected that trade cooperation between the two countries would increase.
