Aziz and Elahi discuss Asif Zardari’s return

ISLAMABAD: Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi, chief minister of Punjab, met Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz on Saturday and discussed the country’s political situation with special reference to Asif Ali Zardari’s return to Pakistan and Muttahida Majlis-e-Amal’s protest in Lahore on April 16.
The prime minister directed the chief minister to ensure that law and order was maintained and not to let anyone take the law into their own hands, sources said. Pakistan Peoples Party-Parliamentarians (PPP-P) has planned a grand welcome for Zardari. The MMA has announced that it will hold a rally in Lahore to protest the arrest of its workers in Gujranwala.
The chief minister and the PM also discussed progress on development projects including the construction of roads, provision of clean drinking water, electricity and sanitation. The PM said that because of a good crop for second consecutive year, there had been an increase in the income of farmers, which would help improve the standard of living in rural areas. Aziz said the government was taking various steps to improve the supply of basic commodities so that these would be available at reasonable prices.
