Zardari asks Fazl to postpone MMA’s April 16 protest
ISLAMABAD: PPP leader Asif Ali Zardari has called MMA Secretary General Maulana Fazlur Reham, asking him to change the MMA’s plan to stage a procession from Gujranwala to Lahore on April 16, the date for Zardari’ scheduled arrival at the Lahore airport.
Sources said that Zardari was concerned that the MMA rally would spoil the hero’s welcome he expected on his return.
In this regard, the PPP has approached the central leadership of the MMA for a solution to the problem. Sources said that Zardari requested Fazl to change the date of the protest rally. He feared that the Punjab government might arrest PPP workers under the guise of law and order if the MMA did not change its plan to hold the rally.
Sources, however, said that Zardari failed to persuade Fazl to change the rally’s programme. Sources that Benazir Bhutto might also contact Fazl in this regard. Meanwhile, Zardari will come by an Emirates flight and has reserved 60 seats for party leaders and workers who will accompany him. online
