JAH advises Fazl, Durrani to end NSC boycott
By Iqbal Khattak
PESHAWAR: Jamiat Ahle Hadith's (JAH) Peshawar chapter on Saturday became the third component party of the six-party Muttahida Majlis-e-Amal (MMA) to demand for opposition leader Maulana Fazlur Rehman and North West Frontier Province (NWFP) Chief Minister Akram Khan Durrani’s participation in the National Security Council’s (NSC) meetings.
It followed a similar demand from the Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) and Jamiat Ulema-e-Pakistan-Noorani.
"The MMA Supreme Council should end a boycott of the NSC," the party demanded unanimously during an executive committee meeting with member of the NWFP Assembly Dr Zakir Shah in the chair. It said the MMA’s boycott of the NSC was harming the province’s interests and its people. "It (NSC) is a constitutional body. Nobody can deny this," the meeting said. MMA President Qazi Hussain Ahmed had twice rejected such a demand.
Dr Shah told Daily Times that the NWFP was dependent on the centre and 90 percent resources "come from Islamabad". "It will be good for the province and its people if Fazl and Durrani attend the NSC meetings. The MMA's main differences with the federal government will not be compromised by ending the NSC boycott," he added.
