TANK: The government has distributed cheques for Rs 10.37 million among the relatives of those killed or wounded in the military operations against Al Qaeda-linked militants in South Waziristan Agency.
Asmatullah Gandapur, the agency’s chief administrator, distributed the cheques to the heirs of 17 tribesmen, 23 seriously wounded and some minor injured tribesmen, said a senior government official.
The government gave Rs 500,000 to the family of each person killed, Rs 200,000 to each seriously wounded and Rs 50,000 to those who had minor injures.
Asmatullah said the money could not bring back those killed but would help the bereaved families feed themselves.
