Musharraf will address parliament after Indian visit: Shujaat

Staff Report

ISLAMABAD: President Pervez Musharraf will address the joint session of parliament after his visit to India, according to a press statement by Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain on Saturday.

The president will visit India on April 17 to watch the final one-day cricket match between Pakistan and India in New Delhi. He is scheduled to meet Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Congress leader Sonia Gandhi during his visit and discus bilateral issues with them.

“Reports about the president addressing the joint session on April 13 are baseless,” he said.

He said that in order to resolve the Sindh issue, a meeting of leaders of the Pakistan Muslim League had been summoned today (Sunday). “We have no objection to the Sindh PML’s demands for political autonomy if they can solve their problems by themselves,” he said. About the Dera Bugti, Shujaat Hussain said that the party and Nawab Akbar Bugti had agreed that details of the accord would not be made public until the issues were finalised.

The PML president said that for the resolution of Balochistan’s problems, a positive strategy would be adopted and the development package would change the fate of the Balochi people. On Asif Zardari’s return to Pakistan on April 16, he said the government was not afraid of Zardari. “The MMA is changing its stance on issues. First they said there should be no marathon races for women. In Lahore, women took part in the race wearing scarves. Now they say there should be no joint races. The MMA has not brought these issues up in the National Assembly,” he said.

On the rescue of a kidnapped girl on Saturday, Shujaat said those involved in the kidnapping of children were not human beings and must be severely punished. “No one will be allowed to violate the rights of women in Pakistan and the government will take strict measures to prevent such incidents in the future,” he said.
