Seven killed in van-trailer crash

ISLAMABAD: Seven people were killed and 12 other injured when a passenger van crashed into a trailer near the Tarnol Railway Crossing on Saturday morning.
The van was travelling from Rawalpindi to Banu when the trailer, driven by Muhammad Mushtaq, suddenly drove into its direction as he tried to turn towards Fatehjang. Abdul Hadi, the van driver, tried to stop but failed.
The accident happened early in the morning when most of the passengers were asleep. The dead were identified as Hukanullah, Naveed Iqbal, Noor Muhammad, Gul Mastan Khan, Saeed Ayaz, Abdul Hadi and a six-year-old boy who was beyond recognition. Sanaullah, Rahim Dad, Azam Khan, Najeeb, Ainuddin Muhammad Riaz, Inamullah, Shareen, Umer Ayaz, Noorullah and Gul Bostan were injured.
Police rushed to the scene and shifted the injured passengers to the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences in Islamabad and the District Hospital. Three passengers are reported to be in a critical condition. Emotional scenes were witnessed in the hospitals when the bodies were shifted to their native towns. According to police, a majority of those killed hailed from Bannu. The trailer driver was later arrested and his vehicle confiscated.
