Soomro orders issuance of press cards annually

ISLAMABAD: The Senate Secretariat will issue press gallery cards to be valid for a year to the representatives of media organisations who are accredited by the Government of Pakistan on the recommendation of the Press Information Department.

The decision was taken by Senate Chairman Muhammadmian Soomro on the recommendation of a special committee that investigated the incident involving police officials and journalists outside the Parliament House on February 13. A facilitation desk for journalists has already been set up at the reception in the Parliament House under an officer from the Press Information Department.

The special committee will examine the inquiry report by the Islamabad superintendent of police and send its findings to the Senate chairman who will take action subsequently.

Senators Tariq Azeem Khan, Mushahid Hussain Syed and Muhammad Ali Durrani made up the committee.
