‘District govts responsible for drugs shortage’
LAHORE: The district governments are responsible for the shortage of drugs in their district and tehsil headquarter hospitals, said Chief Minister Pervaiz Elahi on Tuesday.
Talking to reporters after awarding Punjab endowment fund scholarships to 150 students from the Fatima Jinnah Medical College, Mr Elahi said his government had ensured the availability of free drugs to patients in all teaching hospitals.
“The district governments are responsible for the shortage of drugs,” he said, adding he would ask the districts about the matter. About the shortage of flour and steel in the market, he said the Punjab government had conveyed the situation to the federal government.
Earlier, speaking at the scholarship distribution ceremony, Mr Elahi said that no brilliant student would be deprived of higher education due to a lack of resources. The scholarships were of Rs 12,000 per year to day scholars and Rs 18,000 per year to boarders.
