Garrisons cannot bring Balochistan prosperity, says Akbar Bugti
DERA BUGTI: Nawab Akbar Bugti, Jamhoori Watan Party chief, on Wednesday said military garrisons and checkposts could not change people’s lives for the better in Balochistan. “It hurts me to see the people of Balochistan living a miserable life, while the rulers live a luxurious one,” Bugti told journalists at his house in Dera Bugti. He said the Balochis had deliberately been kept in the dark about the Gwadar Master Plan and therefore they were regarding the government’s intentions with suspicion. He said the poor literacy rate and a low per capital income continued to affect the people of the province. He said the Balochis would be reduced to a minority after the completion of major projects in the province and predicted that the Balochistan’s chief minister would either be a Chaudhry or an Awan in twenty years from now. He accused the government of trying to protect Capt Hamad, the prime suspect in Dr Shazia’s rape. He said Captain Hamad was related to an army general and was the brother of the Okara district coordination officer. Bugti charged the government with arresting 50 Bugti tribesmen for attacking Sui installations without proof. The Bugtis would not rest till Captain Hamad was arrested, he said. online
