Convicted rapist executed in Kot Lakhpat Jail

LAHORE: Amjad Javed, who raped and murdered a 9-year-old girl named Kiran Shahzadi in 2000, was executed in Kot Lakhpat Jail on Wednesday morning.

Allah Rakha Rehmani, a labourer of Farooq Gunj in Sheikhupura, hired Amjad Javed as a teacher for children Salman and Kiran. When they went to Amjad’s house on February 29, 2000, he raped and murdered Kiran and chopped up her body.

After investigations, the police arrested Amjad, who subsequently confessed to the rape and murder.

An anti-terrorism court gave him death sentence, which was upheld by the Lahore High Court in 2001 and also by the Supreme Court in 2002. President General Pervez Musharraf also rejected the convict’s clemency appeal in 2005. On Tuesday, convict’s last meeting was arranged with his family during which he appealed for a compromise with the victims’ family. He was executed on Wednesday morning at 6:30am.
