Sending troops to Dera Bugti an intrigue, says chieftain

DERA BUGTI: The federal government has adopted double standards on the gas royalty policy as federal minister for petroleum and natural gas emphasises negotiations between the gas companies and the Bugti tribes. The federal government is sending Frontier Constabulary (FC) Jawans to the troubled area of Dera Bugti as a result of an intrigue, alleged a chieftain Elahi Bux Khan Mondarani.

He praised the steps taken by the provincial government to settle the dispute, and said the federal government was fuelling the fire by directly intervening in the affairs of the province, he added.

In a statement issued here on Sunday, Mondarani said gas supply to the local Bugti tribes had already been suspended due to government’s wrong policies, “but we want nothing except the royalty to be spent on the welfare and prosperity of the common man of the area,” he added.

“It is a crucial time for the ruling party as the premier belonged to the same troubled area, but Punjabis are using the Baloch leader not to tackle the issue in a proper way, leading to the failure of the government,” Mondarani maintained.—NNI
