Shujaat announces new organisation to promote Islam
ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Muslim League (PML) President Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain announced the formation of a non-political organisation to spread the ‘real message’ of Islam on a global level.
“The organisation will also work for the promotion of Sufism,” said the PML president. “I will contact and request PPPP (Pakistan People’s Party Parliamentarians) Chairman Amin Fahim and Sartaj Aziz of PML-Nawaz to join the new body,” he said on Wednesday.
He said no political issues were discussed during his meeting with the PPPP chairman on Tuesday in the National Assembly, but that they had exchanged views on sufism. He would soon pay a visit to the shrine of sufi poet Shah Abdul Latif Bhitai, he said.
He said the new organisation would have no political role, and would work separately from the PML’s platform. He said the role of sufis in creating peace, harmony and tolerance would be highlighted to the world because “their culture is ours.”
Hussain said Yousaf Salahuddin, Hameed Akhwand and known singer Abida Parveen along with some Balochi representatives would be included in the new organisation.
He said sufism represented the real picture of Islam, and the promotion of its message essential to eliminating extremism.
He cited the universality of the sufis by noting that Hindus and Sikhs also paid homage to shrines of sufi saints such as Hazrat Khawaja Moeenuddin Chishti and Hazrat Data Ganj Bakhsh. online
