PML-N to contest LB polls in collaboration with all Opp parties

LAHORE: The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) has proposed Khwaja Ahmed Hasaan, former Data Gunj Buksh Town nazim, for the Lahore nazim, but the final decision will be taken after consulting the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) and Jammat-e-Islami (JI).

Mian Nawaz Sharif, PML-N chief and former prime minister, directed the party’s Punjab leadership to cooperate with all opposition parties in the upcoming local elections and support their candidates, party sources told Daily Times.

Sharif directed the party to focus on Punjab. For Lahore, he directed the party’s central finance secretary Muhammad Pervez Malik to look after the election campaign.

Nine potential candidates are in the running for the Lahore nazim seat. From PML, Mian Amir Mahmood, Haroon Akhtar Khan and Hafiz Ghulam Muhiyuddin are potential candidates. Mian Misbahur Rehman, Muhammad Arshad Ghurki, Azizur Rehman Chann and Hassan Tariq from Pakistan People’s Party, Khawaja Ahmad Hassan of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz and Hafiz Salman Butt of JI are also possible candidates.

Hassan and Butt could contest for the Lahore nazim and naib nazim seats against the PML candidates.

For Ravi Town nazim and naib nazim, Mehr Muhammad Asim, Yousaf Aahad Malik, Mian Tallat of PML, Zaffar Masood Bhatti and Dr Ziaullah Bangash of Pakistan People’s Party, Khawaja Salman Rafique of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz and Shahid Bilal of MMA are in the run.

For Shalimar Town, Ashiq Dial, Mian Ikhlaq Guddu of PML, Chaudhry Ejaz Imran of Pakistan People’s Party, Haji Imdad Hussain of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz and Abid Jalali of MMA have started their campaigns.

For Data Gunj Buksh Town, Tariq Sana Bajwa and Mian Shahbaz Ahmad of PML, Zaffar Iqbal, Chaudhry Asghar Ali of Pakistan People’s Party, Mian Marghoob Ahmad and Shoaib Khan Niazi of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz and Ejaz Ahmad Chaudhry of MMA could stand in the elections.

For Allama Iqbal Town, Sardar Adid Umar, Mian Javid Ali and Mian Amir Asad Munir of PML, Mian Muhammad Tariq of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz, Chaudhry Muhammad Akbar of PPP and Zahoor Ahmad Wattoo of MMA are potential candidates.

For Aziz Bhatti Town, Chaudhry Muhammad Ashraf of PML, Sohail Asghar Ghurki of PPP, Mian Naseer Ahmad of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz and Hakim Bhatti of MMA are in the race.

For Nishtar Town, Rafique Hasrat, Col (r) Tahir Kardar of PML, Muhammad Aslam of Pakistan People’s Party, Naseer Ahmad Bhutta and Mian Zahid Latif of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz and Shahid Aslam of MMA are possible candidates for nazim and naib nazim.
