HEC upgrades degree awarding institutions

ISLAMABAD: The Higher Education Commission (HEC) has upgraded the Institute of Business and Technology (Biztek) in Karachi from category ‘B’ to ‘A’ and the University of Faisalabad and Superior College Lahore from category ‘C’ to category ‘B’.

The decision was made after a physical inspection and conforming the progress made by these institutions in strengthening their infrastructure, said a press release issued on Thursday.

Pursuing the resolution passed in the first meeting of the Chancellors’ Committee chaired by the president, HEC officials inspected all private sector universities/degree awarding institutions to check that they met the criteria laid down for setting up new university/institution of higher education. Based on the inspection reports, the private niversities/degree awarding institutions had been categorised into four in accordance with fulfillment of criteria.

The sponsors of universities/degree awarding institutions were accordingly asked to enhance their facilities, the press release said. Talking serious note of HEC’s instruction, according to reports, some private universities were taking measures to enhance their infrastructure. app
