Fahim hails Mushahid’s speech on political prisoners

By Irfan Ali

KARACHI: The chief of the ARD and the PPP (Parliamentarians), Makhdoom Amin Fahim, welcomed on Sunday PML Secretary-General Mushahid Husain’s reported views that Asif Zardari, Makhdoom Javed Hashmi and Yousuf Raza Gilani be released for restoration of “true democracy.”

Senator Mushahid Husain said during the debate on the two-office bill in the Senate that all political prisoners, including Zardari, Gillani and Hashmi, be released as “confidence-building measures for the restoration of democracy.”

The Daily Times talked to Makhdoom Amin Fahim at the residence of Jam Karam Ali, which he visited to condole the death of Jam Amir Ali, brother of Karam Ali. Jam Farooq and Jam Qaim were also present.

Makhdoom claimed that PPP leaders Zardari, Gilani and PML (N) leader Javed Hashmi had been implicated in false cases because of their political affiliations. Welcoming Mushahid’s proposal, he stressed that now the government should act upon what Mushahid said in the Senate.

Answering a question, he said the ARD parties would finalise after Eid whether the Muttahida Majlis-e-Amal should be invited to join the ARD’s anti-Musharraf movement. He said decision in this regard would be made after consultations with the ARD parties.

Replying to another question, he said there had no been deal with the government at any level. “It is a propaganda against the People’s Party. It’s nothing but disinformation,” he said. The PPPP chief said: “Zardari is a political prisoner and it is his right to be released.” He criticised President Musharraf and claimed that his was one-man rule was harmful to the country and he must not continue.
