Bugti wants govt flexibility on cantonments
DERA BUGTI: Talks will be useless in finding a solution to the Balochistan issue unless the government alters its plans to set up cantonments in the province, according to the chief of the Jamhori Watan Party (JWP), Nawab Akbar Khan Bugti.
“If the government wants investment and progress of the area, then the UAE should be followed as role model,” Mr Bugti told reporters on Tuesday. He said that he was pessimistic about the effectiveness of a 29-member parliamentary committee to address and tackle the Balochistan situation because other committees like the Kashmir Committee, the Water Distribution Committee and the NFC award Committee, had not met their objectives. He said if the government was sincere about resolving the issue, a team of just 4-5 members would be enough. He said, “All provincial development projects, including Gwadar and other big projects should be legislated in the Balochistan Assembly.” He demanded that the government should appoint the Gwadar Port Authority chief and 60 percent of the board of directors of the project from Balochistan. online
