Lankan diplomat thanks people
KARACHI: The Consul-General of Sri Lanka at Karachi, Manel De Silva, has said a hotline and web addresses have been established for those wanting to know the whereabouts of their near and dear ones in Sri Lanka, where nearly 28,500 people have died in the tsunami disaster. The Sri Lankan flag flew at half-mast on the consulate building on Friday and Ms De Silva said this was because the Sri Lankan government was observing a national mourning day. Ms de Silva and her staff also observed silence for three minutes in memory of those who died in the tsunami disaster. She said Sri Lanka’s phone connections with the outside world were all right now. She said people got in touch with her country’s government through certain websites, which were updated from time to time. staff report
