Pakistan completes UNSC term
ISLAMABAD: Pakistan on Friday completed its two-year stint as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council.
“Pakistan made a substantial contribution to international peace and security, consistent with its high ideals and the UN charter,’” said a Foreign Office statement. Pakistan was elected a non-permanent member of the UNSC along with Angola, Chile, Germany and Spain in September 2002 and began its term on January 1, 2003. “We never shrank from our independent positions and worked to build unity and consensus in the council, ‘the statement said. “We are satisfied that our participation enriched the council’s work.”
The Foreign Office said Pakistan would continue to promote the objectives of peace, security and development through by actively participating in deliberations of other UN organs. app
