Life at standstill as roads are deserted

DASKA: Hundreds of commuters, including women and children, were stranded on Friday at bus and wagon stops in several areas because of the non-availability of transport. The district administration has impounded public vehicles to carry Pakistan Muslim League workers to Gujrat where President General Pervaiz Musharraf will make a public speech today (Saturday). There was no transport in Daska, Bhopalwala, Sambrial, Uggoki, Pasrur, Badiana, Chawinda, Satrah and other rural areas. The people strongly protested and chanted anti-government slogans. Taking advantage of this condemnable situation, the drivers of three wheeler motorcycle rickshaws, tractor trolleys and lorries on Friday continued to overload and overcharge the people.
