All roads go to Gujrat
GUJRANWALA: With Pervez Musharraf’s expected arrival in Gujrat amid a tight security belt today (Saturday), Gujranwala has demonstrated its biggest-ever public service show cashing in on any bus or van to receive the president. In the Police Lines area, for example, buses and vans have been confiscated leaving van and bus stops packed with anguished passengers being cheated by motorcycle-rickshaw drivers. For the fear of being dragooned into joining the great road line-up, some van owners have been forced to hide their vans. Employees of the Zafar, Rasheed and Ilyas van services told Daily Times on Friday that the vans were being seized by the district administration without rent or fair, but they had been told to remain mum. Babu Javed Ahmed, the city nazim, has already announced its intention to go to Gujrat with at least 100 buses to welcome Mr Musharraf. staff report
