Pakistani records songs with Alga Yagnik
LAHORE: United Kingdom-based Pakistani singer Raja Kashif, trained by acclaimed composer Ravi Shankar, has announced the completion of a duet album with film singer Alga Yagnik. The duet, produced by Indian company Saray Gama HMV, is Yagnik’s first non-film work.
Talking to Daily Times, the Kashif said that he had met Ravi Shankar at a British radio channel Sunrise, shortly after completing law from Kings College University, London. “Mr Shankar, not only groomed me in singing but also introduced me to a number of Bollywood singers,” he said.
Kashif said that he wanted to make music that would be popular with the public without the backing of films. He said two of the songs with Yagnik had been prepared in Lahore and recorded in India. The UK-based singer said that the album would be released in January. This album, he said, was his third; the other ones being ‘Spirit of Love’ and ‘Piyar Ker Lay’. Kashif said the video of Mujhay Chore Kay, which starred film star Noor had been played on B4U, Sony, and Zee.
Kashif regretted the wastage of Pakistan singing talent, attributing the loss to the lack of singing competitions. “Such competitions should be held in rural and urban areas to bring out the immense talent in Pakistan,” he said. shoaib ahmed
