Eid in Saudi Arabia today
LAHORE: Today (Thursday) will be the first day of Eidul Fitr in Saudi Arabia, as the Supreme Court on Wednesday confirmed the sighting of Shawwal crescent by reliable witnesses, the Royal Court announced.
According to the Arab News, the Supreme Court, meanwhile, congratulated Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah, Crown Prince Salman, other members of the royal family, Saudis and all Muslims on the advent of Eidul Fitr.
Kuwait, Jordan and Palestine will also mark Eid today. However, Oman announced that Shawwal moon had not been sighted and Eidul Fitr would be marked tomorrow (Friday).
Meanwhile, Shawwal moon had also been sighted in Japan.
Muslim scholars in Saudi Arabia appeared split on Tuesday on whether the end-of-Ramazan moon should be sighted on Tuesday, which marks 28 days of the fasting month.
Meanwhile, the Pakistan Meteorological Department said that the chances that the new moon would apprear today (Thursday) in the courntry were extremely high. Therefore, Eid might fall tomorrow (Friday).
The moon would be clearly sighted in interior areas of Sindh, including Hyderabad and Karachi. Chances of sighting the moon in Punjab are, however, 50 percent. Eid in India, Pakistan and Bangladesh is usually celebrated a day after Saudi Arabia. daily times monitor
