Russian athlete handed doping ban
MOSCOW: Russian long jumper Tatyana Kotova has been provisionally suspended after a re-analysis of a sample dating back to the 2005 World Championships came back positive, the Russian Anti-Doping Agency announced Friday. A statement on RUSADA’s website said: “The International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF), after hearing back from the WADA-accredited Laboratory in Lausanne, initiated a review of a possible anti-doping rule violation by Russian athlete Tatyana Kotova.” RUSADA said that Kotova “has been suspended from participating in any capacity in a training camp or competition as of January 29, 2013 until the decision has been rendered on the case.” A three-time world indoor champion, Kotova has also won three outdoor World Championship silver medals. In addition, she won silver at the 2000 Sydney Olympics and the 2004 Athens Games. afp
