Lok Virsa to hold ‘Women at Work Festival’

ISLAMABAD: To mark the International Women Day tomorrow (Thursday), Lok Virsa (The National Institute of Folk and Traditional Heritage) and Federal Ministry of National Heritage and Integration will hold a five-day National Women at Work Festival from March 8 to 12. Lok Virsa Executive Director Khalid Javaid said the festival would be organised by his organisation in collaboration with DevCom. The event would have a participation of women from different walks of life from Punjab, Sindh, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Balochistan, Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Jammu and Kashmir, he said, adding that the festival would present creative work done by women across the country. Javaid said the festival would feature a painting exhibition on women works, screening of documentaries on gender, rights and development, and a musical night with women folk singers. There would be over 100 stalls by home-based women workers, women entrepreneurs, non-governmental organisations (NGOs), corporate sector and educational institutions, besides a traditional food court and entertainment area for children and families, he added. National Heritage Federal Minister Samina Khalid Ghurki will formally open the festival tomorrow at Lok Virsa Heritage Museum, Garden Avenue, Shakarparian. Information and Broadcasting Minister Dr Firdaus Ashiq Awan is also expected to participate in the inauguration ceremony of the painting exhibition, and a ceremony being held to launch a book by Dr Fouzia Saeed on March 9. staff report
