Poor sewerage system annoys residents

ISLAMABAD: Presence of sewage in parts of Islamabad and Rawalpindi is creating problems for residents. Residents say they have requested authorities to dispose of stagnant water from their localities but to no avail. The sewerage system is not good and gutters often overflow, they said. In the absence of a proper sewerage system, residents of different localities are forced to drain sewage on streets. “Most people drain sewage on streets... the street adjacent to Farooqia Market of Sector F6 is clogged with stagnant water,” said Mohsin Khan, a resident of Sector F6. Amir Ali, a resident of Rawalpindi, said that sewage from gutters often overflows into streets in different areas of the city, creating problems not only for pedestrians but also for motorists. Residents have urged authorities to take notice of the matter and solve their problems at the earliest. An official of the Capital Development Authority (CDA) said they had taken several steps to overcome the sewage issue. He said that residents who did not properly dispose of sewage would face penalty. app
