Microsoft has emerging marketplace in Pakistan: Sherif Morsi

KARACHI: Pakistan is important to Microsoft in the world as there are huge opportunities in Pakistan due to huge population, computer users and significant developer community, which shows its plan to introduce Urdu as a language option on Windows 8.

This was stated by Microsoft North Africa, East Mediterranean and Pakistan Business Group Lead Sherif Morsi. Microsoft has lunched Windows 8 in Pakistan same time it unveiled it in other part of the world. Whenever we have upgraded offers we want to make sure these are available in Pakistan also so that consumers here can benefit from such offers timely.

Pakistan is also big in terms of PC shipments, which presents us with a huge opportunity with current installed base, he said. The number internet users are on the rise besides people are very avid having advanced laptop, Tablet PCs and Smartphones, Morsi said.

Pakistani developers can build and develop applications for Windows 8 because the GMaps developed by a Pakistani developer has the highest number of downloads in Middle East and Africa region.

Popcorn Time is one of the hit movie-based apps developed by Pakistani developers and Microsoft anticipated that more developers in the country will make the difference through its platform across the world.

We will be featuring a lot more apps developed by Pakistani developers in near future. The apps are being designed keeping in mind different needs of customers worldwide however Microsoft has made its priority to develop apps to be relevant to the local market, Morsi said.

Microsoft has emerging marketplace in Pakistan. Microsoft ensures support to local community to build local apps. For this reason, we are engaging with developers on regular basis to guide them to develop locally relevant apps.

It has talented Pakistani developers on board publishing apps for the Pakistani market. The company is expecting hundreds of Pakistani relevant apps coming in the market and these numbers are very substantial keeping in view the content quality and its utility potential of apps.

This is start just towards because Microsoft is a brand that does not comprise on quality over quantity, he said. The company has rejected a lot of apps that did not meet the standards.

The number of members of Microsoft community will be increasing having potential to produce a commercial sound and viable apps for the customers.

Briefing about Windows 8, he said that it gives you the best experience with work and play. You can do both at the same time on a single device.

The beauty of Windows 8 is that you can easily upgrade your current versions to Windows 8 as long as device fulfills the basic minimum requirement. The upgrade offer is there to encourage consumers to use Windows 8, Microsoft official said.

Windows 8 on tablets can be managed securely to enable learning that is optimised, safe and secure.

Morsi is optimistic about curbing piracy of Microsoft product in local market as he is seeking progress in Pakistan in this area. We are trying to make consumers more aware of the value of genuine Windows. It leads to a secure and best user experience.
