Pakistan summons Afghan envoy to protest shelling

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan on Monday conveyed its strong reaction over the Afghan National Army’s unprovoked shelling into its territory, killing four Pakistanis. Foreign Secretary Jalil Abbas Jilani conveyed deep concern of the government to the Afghan ambassador over the shelling last evening, killing four people, including two children. Condemning the attacks, the foreign secretary said that such attacks were unhelpful and unproductive, and would only vitiate the conducive environment that Pakistan was trying to create for promotion of peace and stability in the region. He also strongly urged the Afghan government to take appropriate measures to prevent recurrence of such incidents in the future. On Sunday, the Afghan National Army fired three mortar shells into Pakistan. Reportedly, the shells hit a civilian vehicle killing four people who were coming back after collecting firewood.
