Top cop among six killed in Peshawar blast

PESHAWAR: A senior police official was among six persons killed on Wednesday in a suicide bombing in the city, while militant group Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan claimed responsibility for the attack, officials said. Superintendent of Police (Investigation) Hilal Haider was killed in the targeted attack, SP Asif Iqbal told reporters, adding six persons were killed in all, whereas the Rescue 1122 service personnel said seven people had died and 28 others injured. Haider left his house in Kucha Risaldar for his police station when a suicide bomber blew himself up close to his vehicle in the jurisdiction of Abdur Razzak Police Station in the famous Qissa Khawani Bazaar, Iqbal said. He said the dead included four policemen. Banned militant group Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan telephoned the BBC to accept responsibility for the attack. The group’s spokesman Ehsanullah Ehsan, however, gave no reasons for the attack. staff report/afp
