France for peaceful resolution of Myanmar ethnic issues

PARIS: France attaches great importance to a peaceful and concerted resolution of ethnic issues in Myanmar in order to achieve reconciliation, the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs deputy spokesman said on Tuesday.

The spokesman said the status of Muslim population of Rakhine state needed to be clarified as far as their right to nationality was concerned. “There are reports of troubling acts of violence against civilians by the security forces. We urge the Myanmarese authorities to protect all civilian populations without discrimination and to investigate these possible atrocities,” the spokesman said. The spokesman urged the Myanmarese authorities to define a reconciliation strategy based on the integration, and not the separation, of the two communities Rakhine and Rohingya. pr
