Harlan Ullman denies accepting funds from Haqqani
LAHORE: Former United States naval commander and adviser to President Barack Obama, Harlan K Ullman, while denying allegations by Mansoor Ijaz and his attorney Akram Sheikh of accepting money from former ambassador to the US Husain Haqqani in memogate, has asked Ijaz to set the record straight immediately. In an email sent to Ijaz on Tuesday, Ullman asks the main character in the scandal and his attorney Sheikh Akram to take back their allegations. Earlier, Ijaz’s counsel Akram Shiekh had claimed in a statement that a Pakistani embassy provided funds to Harlan Ullman and David Frum for damage control after the memo controversy. In his email, Ullman, while addressing Ijaz, says, “Mansoor, as you know, your attorney has accused me of accepting money from Husain Haqqani over the memogate business. This accusation is slanderous, false and damaging.” The email states further, “Regardless of our differences over this unfortunate affair, a friend in need is a friend indeed and under no circumstances would I have expected or accepted a penny from Husain or from his attorneys or for that matter anyone who needed my help under similar circumstances.” At the end, Ullman tells Ijaz that he “would be grateful if you or your attorney corrected the record and did so promptly”. staff report
