PTI flays president's speech

* Party says president distorted facts to prove performance

Staff Report

ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), criticising President Asif Zardari’s address to a joint session of parliament, has said the president had badly distorted facts to prove his government’s performance during the last four years.

According to a press release on Saturday, the PTI said the only good aspect of the president’s address was the fifth time he performed this ritual. Otherwise in his entire speech he played with wrong figures, it added.

Adding to the economic losses, the huge level of corruption proved the government’s failure. The Transparency International, the statement said, had calculated that the economic loss to the country in the last four years amounted to the tune of Rs 8,500 billion. All parties represented in parliament, in one government or another, were jointly responsible for the massive failure in providing either security or economic or social justice to the people, it added. In short despite all the tall claims by the president, this government had failed virtually on every front, it concluded.
