Movie Review: ‘Desi Boyz’
By Saira Agha
Prepare to be entertained. With never a dull moment in the movie, harmonised screenplay and humour that will keep you laughing throughout the movie, ‘Desi Boyz’ is one film to watch this season.
After the hilarious comic timing in ‘Garam Masala’ the terrific onscreen ‘jodi’ of Akshay Kumar-John Abraham is back, but this time as Jerry and Nick. ‘Desi Boyz’ is a male centric film that also shows different shades of bromance between two thick friends. Akshay Kumar who plays the role of Jignesh aka Jerry in the film works as a security personnel and John Abraham aka Nick works as a banker and the two have a brilliantly sorted life. They share a great bond and absolutely live it up, until recession hits the job markets world over and both of their jobs run into troubled waters.
Nick who had a well paid job as a banker and gave out a responsible vibe to his long term girlfriend Radhika played by Deepika Padukone, starts to face financial crisis. On the other hand Jerry who worked as security personnel faces trouble as he is not able to fulfil his responsibilities towards his nephew Veer who his sister left behind. Now due to financial crisis, Veer gets sent to the orphanage.
Having run up the wall, both Jerry and Nick decide to do something about their situation and sign up to become male escorts. Now working as male escorts will they be able to bring Veer back home? How will Radhika react to Nicks reality? And from where will Chitrangda’s character enter the film? That’s for you to discover in the latter part of the film!
Amazing foot tapping music, burning on-screen chemistry between Akshay and Chitrangada and brilliant comic timing between John and Akki is something that makes this film a complete package.
Sanjay Dutt’s entry as the owner of the escort agency Nick and Jerry work for, is an added whammy. Sanjay’s strong performance in fact overshadows the other two actors at times in the film.
Akshay is back with a bang and John deserves an applause too, for he matches AK’s comic timing and screen presence with great perfection.
So what are you waiting for? Get yourself booked to go on a date with ‘Desi Boyz’ this very weekend!
Rating: Four cheers for this one!
