Lt Gen Khalid Rabbani to be new Commander of 11 Corps
Staff Report
PESHAWAR: Lieutenant General Khalid Rabbani will take over charge from Lt General Asif Yasin Malik as Corps Commander 11 Corps next month, military sources said here on Monday.
Lt Gen Asif Yasin will retire next month after serving the military in different capacities. He replaced Lt Gen Muhammad Masood Aslam in April 2010. The military sources did not give exact date for change of command, meanwhile, Gen. Rabbani is presently serving as commandant of Command and Staff College, Quetta. He will be the 20th corps commander to lead the 11 Corps. He has commanded Operation Rah-e-Nijat (‘Operation Path to Salvation’) against Hakeemullah Mehsud led banned militant organization TTP in 2009. “ Lt Gen Rabbani has vast experience of operations in tribal areas,” the military sources said wishing not to be named.
Gen Rabbani will be heading the 11 Corps when the United States is pressing Pakistan harder to order action against Haqqani network in North Waziristan.
The 11 Corps gained prominence when the Afghan people waged jihad against the Soviet occupation in 1979. Both the incoming and outgoing corps commanders belong to Punjab Regiment.
