11 fall prey to target killings in Karachi

KARACHI: The ongoing target killing and violence gripped the city, claiming 11 lives of people, including son of Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q) leader Zaibun Nissa, one activist and one sympathiser of Awami National Party (ANP) and one Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) activist, in different parts of the metropolis on Thursday.

Son of PML-Q leader was gunned down near Al Ghazali Mosque within the limits of Gulshan-e- Iqbal police station. Arif, 38, son of Kanwar Afzali, resident of Bara Dari Apartment, Gulshan-e-Iqbal was going home when unidentified armed men opened fire on him, resultantly he received four bullets in his abdomen. Police shifted him to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital (ASH) for medical treatment where he succumbed to the bullet injuries. SHO Kenson Dean said the victim’s mother Zaibun Nissa was a prominent PML-Q leader and his father was former activist of PML-N. He said that he used to run an estate agency in same area where he resided. The officer said the police believed that a personal enmity might be the motive behind the incident.

In other incident, an activist and a sympathiser of ANP were shot dead near Fancy Tower, Gulshan-e-Iqbal in the remits of Sachal police station. The incident took place at Fancy Tower near Abul Hassan Isphani Road, where at least four armed men on two motorcycles opened fire as a result, two youth Ahmed Shah and Khalil Ahmed received bullet injuries. Police shifted them to Patel Hospital where they succumbed to his injuries.

Police officials said Shah was an activist of ANP while other was the sympathiser. They said the motive of dual murder could not be ascertained yet. Both victims hailed from Peshawar. No case was registered till filing the report. In yet another incident, an activist of PPP was shot dead near his house in Majeed Colony within the remits of Quaidabad police station. Tasleem, 25, son of Shamim, resident of Majeed Colony, Landhi, was standing outside his home, when unidentified armed men shot him dead. The body was shifted to the JPMC for medico-legal formalities.

Police officials said the victim was an employee of a private company and an activist of PPP, adding that police believed that personal enmity might be the motive behind the incident.

Separately, police found two bodies of youth from Niazi Chowk, Lyari within the limits of Kalri police station. The identities of victims could not be ascertained. Unidentified culprits threw their bodies near Mama Hotel, Niazi Chowk, and managed to escape. SHO Zahid Tanoli said both victims had several torture marks, adding unidentified culprits kidnapped them from unknown place and after torture, cut their ears and noses and threw their bodies at Niazi Chowk. The bodies were shifted to the Civil Hospital Karachi (CHK) for post-mortem and later moved to Edhi Morgue for identification.

Similarly, two men were shot dead near KMC hospital in the jurisdiction of Manghopir police station. The incident took place at Garam Chashma, Manghopir Road when at least four armed men opened fire, resultantly Abdul Wahid and Asif died on the spot, while Mohammad Naeem received bullet injuries. The bodies and injured were shifted to the ASH.

Meanwhile, a young man, Zohaib, 27, was shot dead in Mawach Goth in the remits of Maripur police station. SHO Bahauddin Babar said that the victim was the resident of Quaidabad. The SHO said he usually live to her aunty at a home in Mawach Goth, adding that Lyari gangster might be involved in his murder. The body was shifted to the CHK for legal formalities.

Separately, a young man was shot dead at his house in Christian Colony, Landhi in the precincts of Zaman Town police station. The victim, Imran Masih, son of Younus Masih, resident of Christian Colony, was standing outside his house in the wee hours of Thursday when unidentified men targeted him. Another man, Waheed, was shot dead near Indus Plaza in the remits of Sohrab Goth police station. DSP Iftikhar Lodhi said the victim was going home on his pushcart when unidentified armed men targeted him. He said the victim family claimed that his relative was involved in the murder.
