Pak EPA shuts down two steel industries for pollution

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Environmental Protection Agency (PAK-EPA) monitoring team visited I-9 Industrial area in compliance with the direction of the Supreme Court of Pakistan for emission control from steel industries of the area. During monitoring, M/S Ittehad Steel Furnace Plot No 51, M/S Al Hadeed Steel plot No 93-94, I-9/2 were observed in violation of National Environmental Quality Standard. Both the industries have been shut down till they come up with required measures for pollution control and operation of other devices. It is pertinent to mention that M/S Pak-Steel Industries has been closed on 22-4-2011 due to non-compliance of court orders and causing pollution and is under maintenance after closure.
