Painting, photography exhibitions held at Alhamra

LAHORE: A photography exhibition by Lali Khalid, titled “The Number and the Place 2011”, and a painting exhibition by her husband Taimur Cleary’s, named “With Me (What We Take)”, were held simultaneously at the Alhamra Art Gallery III on Tuesday. Lali’s large-scale, high definition colour portraits would be familiar to a few but this time she came up with a series of small, black and white photo transfers. The new work explores similar subjects as the chromatic work but end in more intimate and graphically seductive images. Separately, Taimur’s landscape paintings include imagery that courts the sublime, and simultaneously embraces the elements of intimacy and nostalgia through use of smaller scale. A visitor, Zara Khalid, said, “Taimur’s paintings have freshness in them, whereas Lali’s photography is unique and stays strong on its subject.” The show will continue till March 17. staff report
