OIC condemns violence against civilians in Libya
lahore: The Secretary General of the Organisation of the Islamic Conference (OIC), Professor Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu, has strongly condemned the use of excessive force against civilians in the Libya, which resulted in a large number of casualties. He termed the suppression and intimidation happening in Libya a humanitarian disaster which, he said, contradicts Islamic and human values. Ihsanoglu called upon the Libyan authorities to immediately stop violence targeting innocent Libyan people, and for the need to deal with their demands through peaceful means and serious dialogue rather than through lethal means and bloodshed. The secretary general also expressed condolences to the Libyan people and families of the victims. In this context, the OIC General Secretariat in Jeddah emphasised the right of peoples to express their legitimate demands in a peaceful and civil manner, noting that the OIC charter and the 10-year programme of action stresses the importance of enhancing principles of good governance in the OIC member states, promotion of human rights, fighting corruption and widening political participation. pr
