‘World should respect Pak’s judicial system’

ISLAMABAD: The Minister for Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Dr Babar Awan said on Wednesday that the international community and its leaders should desist from commenting on the judicial system of an independent and sovereign Pakistan.

He was talking to journalists in the Supreme Court building after offering fateha for the deceased parents of Justice Javed Iqbal.

“I have objections over Pope Benedict XVI’s statement about the judicial system of Pakistan. I will request him to instead exert his status on the international arena and raise voice for the release of 4,000 imprisoned Palestinians and Aafia Siddiqui,” he added.

He maintained that a free, independent and constitutional judicial system was intact in the country and they should show respect for it.

He said that in a cabinet meeting on Wednesday, condemned the murders of Salmaan Taseer and the parents of Justice Javed Iqbal. staff report
