‘Education plays vital role in progress, prosperity of a nation’

* Sindh CM says it is important task of present government to fulfill the manifesto of PPP as complete efforts are being made to promote education in the province

KARACHI: Education plays an important role for progress and prosperity of a nation while it is important task of present government to fulfil the manifesto of Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) as complete efforts are being made for furtherance of education in the province.

This was observed by Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah while presiding over a meeting of the Sindh Education Foundation (SEF) held at the chief minister house here on Monday.

He stressed the need to provide maximum educational facilities in the province particularly in rural areas. Pressing of a computer key made a computerised random selection of 1,200 schools by the chief minister. These schools are being established under an education scheme entitled the Integrated Education Learning Programme (IELP). The selected schools will be awarded to the successful applicants after verification through a rapid survey to assess the impacts of recent floods on the proposed school sites.

It was further informed that supported by Sindh government, IELP will support 1,500 existing and new private schools across Sindh through a range of implementing partners including non-governmental organisations (NGOs) and community based srganisations (CBOs) trusts and individual entrepreneurs.

The meeting was informed that SEF, as the primary agency, will extend financial and technical support to partners which will include provision of per child subsidy, teachers professional development, capacity building of stakeholders, research, monitoring and evaluation.

It was further informed that IELP presents yet another opportunity to pool expertise, resources and aspirations to bring about a discernible change in the lives of those who matter the most i.e. the children of Sindh.

A collaborating and timely initiative of Sindh Education Foundation (SEF) and Sindh government, the schools established under this scheme will play a vital role in providing educational opportunities to the children who have been deprived of formal schooling as a result of the recent floods, he added.

Prof Anita Ghulam Ali informed that SEF team has received continuing support and leadership by the chairperson of the Board of Governors, the chief minister, constant advice and interest from the ex-officio vice chairperson, Senior Education Minister Pir Mazharul Haq, secretaries of education and finance in particular during the period that the scheme was being prepared and till take off.

The SEF endeavours to rise to the expectations of all value education of quality and significance, she added. Sindh CM appreciated the efforts of SEF and said that the results are encouraging while it is expected that the over all problems faced to promotion of education will be resolved.
